path - bridge - building
An enclosure created through a series of vertical cuts and folds, that provides the experience of a meandering path on a sloped site. The formal language is derived from cutting and folding planar materials to create positive and negative masses, suggesting a dynamic of open air and enclosure.
Circulation through the building reflects the staggering formation. People would walk along its contour in a back and forth meander. This formal condition applies in section as well, allowing natural lighting to enter the space and dynamic shifts in elevation along the hill.
The design of the path and the bridge reflects a similar notion by exploring forces in material and their potentials in creating an architectural experience.

The wooden footbridge is an architectural visualization of a materials resistance and reaction to a force. This being pushing the flexibility of wood, creating movements of splitting and converging. The phenomenon of wood fibers is visualized through the splitting of laminated beams seen in the overhead suspension, railings, joinery, and underside support
